PROCEDURE
Dr. Salloum can correct drooping upper eyelids and puffy bags below the eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle. (Upper-eyelid surgery may be covered by insurance if used to correct visual field defects.)
LENGTH
1 to 3 hours.
ANESTHESIA
Usually locally with sedation or general.
IN/OUTPATIENT
Usually outpatient.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Temporary discomfort, tightness, swelling and bruising to the lids. Temporary dryness, burning and itching of the eyes. Tearing and sensitivity to light for first few weeks.
RECOVERY
Reading in 2 or 3 days. Back to work in 7 to 10 days. Contact lens use in two weeks or more. Resume most strenuous activities and alcohol in about 3 weeks. Bruising and swelling diminishes in several weeks.
RISKS
All surgical procedures involve specific risks. Dr. Salloum will discuss this with you at the time of consultation.
RESULTS
Several years. Sometimes permanent.
