Refresh your natural look with a Brow Lift in Miami
The appearance of early signs of aging can feel very abrupt. One day, you’re looking youthful, fresh, and awake, and the next, you’re noticing forehead wrinkles and sagging or drooping that seems to have occurred overnight. Aging is a gradual process, but the forehead is one of the first areas of the face to start showing signs of aging. Changes in expression, a droopy appearance, and lines and wrinkles in the brow can all occur and make you look older than you feel.

Fortunately, modern plastic surgery has made slowing down the aging process easier than ever. Patients who are feeling self-conscious about their brow area can undergo a brow lift in Miami Beach, FL, at the Miami Center for Plastic Surgery to rejuvenate their forehead and boost their confidence. Double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gabriel Salloum offers patients natural-looking results and a more youthful facial aesthetic with brow lift surgery.

About Brow Lift surgery

A brow lift or forehead lift is a surgical procedure that is performed to lift the brows into a more youthful position and to refresh the face for a more awake and alert expression. During the procedure, a plastic surgeon removes excess skin and lifts the brow to improve hooding over the eyes and reduce both horizontal forehead wrinkles and frown lines.
Best candidates for a Brow Lift
Men and women who have begun to notice signs of aging in their forehead and brow areas like lines and wrinkles, hooding over the eyes, changes in resting facial expression, and sagging skin may be good candidates for a brow lift.
All patients should be healthy adults who have realistic expectations for the procedure. A brow lift can make a person look more youthful and well-rested, but it will not stop the aging process completely and it may not eliminate all signs of aging. Looking at the before and after photos of real brow lift patients can help you set your expectations and understand what’s possible.
Candidates must be non-smokers or willing to quit well in advance of the surgery and for at least several weeks afterward. Smoking interferes with anesthesia and proper healing and poses a safety risk to plastic surgery patients. Dr. Salloum evaluates each patient individually for candidacy during a complimentary brow lift consultation at his Miami Beach office.
The Forehead Lift consultation
During a brow lift consultation with Dr. Gabriel Salloum at the Miami Center for Plastic Surgery, you will be able to discuss your goals in a calm, spa-like environment. Complimentary valet service is provided so that you can head into the office stress-free and learn more about the brow lift procedure while getting to know the doctor.
Dr. Salloum will ask you about your goals and expectations for plastic surgery. He will also evaluate your facial aging patterns and determine what is causing the sagging and drooping in your brow area. Then, he will go over your health history with you and ensure that you are healthy enough for surgery. Be prepared to talk about any current and past medical conditions and any medications you may be taking.
Once he has evaluated your candidacy, Dr. Salloum will go over the forehead lift procedure and recommend a treatment plan. Sometimes, he might suggest alternative procedures if he feels they are more appropriate, such as eyelid surgery to address sagging in the upper eyelids. He may even recommend combining the two procedures or supplementing a forehead lift with Botox treatments.
If your treatment plan includes a brow lift procedure, Dr. Salloum will discuss the surgical technique he recommends and go over the anesthesia options and risks associated with the procedure. To make the most of your time with the doctor, it’s a good idea to come to your consultation prepared with a list of any questions and concerns you may have.
Brow Lift techniques
Dr. Salloum customizes each brow lift procedure to meet the individual patient’s needs. There are two major brow lift techniques that can be used depending on the patient’s goals, expectations, and unique aging progression.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
The endoscopic brow lift is the most common type of forehead lift in modern plastic surgery because it produces subtle results and requires smaller incisions than other techniques. During the procedure, the surgeon makes a number of small incisions, hiding them within the hairline.
An endoscope, or a small camera mounted on a flexible tube, is then used to provide visibility as the surgeon tightens the forehead structures and lifts the forehead tissues. This technique is associated with shorter recovery time and natural-looking results. It is best for people with mild to moderate brow sagging.
Coronal Brow Lift
For more extensive aging in the forehead, a coronal brow lift may be used. In this approach, a long incision is made on the top of the head, spanning from ear to ear. Since it is hidden within the hair-bearing scalp, the scar is hidden once healing is complete.
After the incision is made during a coronal procedure, the surgeon will lift the tissues and adjust the muscles before tightening the skin. This type of lift is best suited to patients with more advanced signs of aging.
Brow Lifts at the Miami Center for Plastic Surgery
Dr. Salloum performs brow lifts on an outpatient basis and may use local anesthesia or general anesthesia. The anesthesia that will be used depends on the surgical technique and the individual patient. This decision will be made during the consultation.
Once the anesthesia has been administered, Dr. Salloum makes the incisions. He will use either the endoscopic approach or the coronal lift to tighten the skin and muscles and lift the forehead. Dr. Salloum takes care to avoid lifting the brow too much in order to create a natural-looking, refreshed appearance.
After he has addressed the sagging forehead structures, Dr. Salloum closes the incisions with sutures (typically the dissolvable type) and places dressings on the incisions. Patients can be driven home by a friend or family member soon after the procedure is complete.
What to expect during your Forehead Lift recovery
After you return home from your forehead lift procedure, you will want to take it easy for a while. You will almost certainly experience some swelling and bruising in the brow area initially but these side effects will gradually fade away in the following weeks. Patients will be prescribed pain medications to help manage any discomfort.
You will be given detailed instructions on how to care for yourself during recovery and information on which activities and habits to avoid in the first few weeks. Most patients are back at desk jobs within 1-2 weeks and may resume moderate exercise in about 4 weeks. Light activity like walking is encouraged soon after surgery to ensure proper circulation and healing.

FAQs about Brow Lift surgery
As with any surgery, forehead lifts do involve some risks. These include bleeding, anesthesia complications, hair loss near the incisions, asymmetry, eye irritation, persistent numbness or changes in sensation, facial nerve injury, skin loss, and poor wound healing.
Although these are all possible complications, they are rare when patients choose a reputable board-certified plastic surgeon to perform the procedure and follow all pre- and post-operative care instructions carefully
Dr. Salloum will evaluate your case during your consultation and make a treatment recommendation. Only an expert with extensive knowledge of facial aging can help you determine the cause of your aesthetic concerns and the most appropriate treatment.
Only a forehead lift can elevate the brow into a more youthful position and deliver long-lasting results. However, it is possible to improve some symptoms with a non-invasive cosmetic procedure in some cases. Many patients are concerned about horizontal forehead lines and may not need surgery to get their desired results.
Neuromodulators like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin can be injected into the forehead to temporarily ease forehead wrinkles and frown lines. Many patients use these treatments to delay a brow lift or skip it altogether.
Aging patterns are unique and each person’s lifestyle and genetics will have an impact on when they start to notice signs of aging. There is no “right” age for a brow lift. If you have signs of aging in your forehead, then you can probably benefit from the procedure, regardless of your age. With that said, most brow lift patients are in their 30s, 40s, and early 50s.
Dr. Salloum will give you a list of what to avoid before surgery (and when). This includes quitting smoking at least several weeks before the procedure and avoiding alcohol and over-the-counter painkillers in the two weeks leading up to surgery.
You should also prepare for your downtime by creating a recovery area where you can relax and sleep with your head elevated. Stock your fridge with healthy food, gather some books and magazines, and fill any prescriptions Dr. Salloum provides. Having everything prepared in advance will make your recovery less stressful and more comfortable.
Don’t forget to arrange a ride to and from the office on the day of your procedure!
