Get a smoother, firmer stomach with a Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, creates an abdominal profile that is smooth and firm. Using a combination of liposuction and sutures, excess fat and abdominal skin are removed, followed by the contouring of the skin, tissue, and abdominal muscles. Many individuals often elect this procedure after undergoing pregnancy, or significant weight loss through diet and exercise.

Understanding the Tummy Tuck procedure
On the day of your procedure, Dr. Salloum will sedate you properly and then he will perform the tummy tuck using a combination of liposuction and surgical procedures to resculpt the stomach area. A small incision will be made, typically below the bikini line in addition to a few small incisions along the waistline, to firm the abdomen. Depending on the case, it may require a longer incision for an extended abdominoplasty and (rarely) involve relocating the belly button.
While you may experience some bruising and swelling immediately after your tummy tuck procedure, once this subsides you will have the flat stomach you’ve always dreamed of!
Your Abdominoplasty Options
There are different types of tummy tuck surgeries available depending on the extent of your loose skin and abdominal muscles. Understanding them will help you decide which treatment is best for you.
Full Tummy Tuck
Ideal for people who want a completely flat belly.
Allows the entire abdominal region to be reduced and smoothened. A bikini line incisions run from the top of the hips to the bottom of the hips below the belly button. A second incision is usually made around the navel. It helps trim loose skin and tighten up your abdomen’s muscles and removes stretch marks from the lower abdomen
Mini Tummy Tuck
Ideal for people who have sagginess and loose muscles confined to their lower abdomens.
Shorter incision and faster recovery time but removes excess skin and fat only from the lower abdominal area while tightening only the abdominal muscles below the navel.
Tummy Tuck Risks
You can be sure that you’re lowering the risks associated with surgery by choosing a qualified plastic surgeon like Dr. Salloum. Complication rates are low, but they’re not unheard of. Major complications are extremely rare.
Possible complications include:
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Hematoma/seroma
- Changes in skin sensation
- Unfavorable scarring
You will be given an explanation of the risks associated with having a tummy tucking surgery during your preoperative consultation with Dr. Salloum.
The Tummy Tuck Recovery
After the initial surgery, the first few days of recovery will be the hardest. You may experience some pain, swelling, and bruising, but these symptoms usually go away within a few days. If you feel any discomfort, Dr. Salloum will prescribe an oral painkiller for you to take.
Rest your body as much as possible so it heals faster. Also, short walks within one to two days after surgery are recommended for good circulation. You can resume light physical activity when it feels comfortable, usually between 10 and 20 days after surgery. However, you should refrain from vigorous exercise or sports for approximately 2 months.
Frequently Asked Questions about Abdominoplasty
A tummy tuck alone won’t get rid of all the fat in your abdomen; however, if you combine it with liposculpture, you’ll be able to achieve a slimmer waistline. They’re usually done together to get the best results.
A healthy lifestyle and regular exercise routine can help you achieve long-term results from your tummy tuck. You need to be aware that excessive weight gain after having a tummy tuck could affect the outcome of your surgery.
Liposuction removes stubborn fat deposits that are difficult to lose through regular exercise and dietary changes. It’s a good choice for people who are close to their ideal weight and have good skin elasticity.
Abdominoplasty becomes necessary when the person has loose, excess abdominal fat that cannot be reduced in size and shape by exercise alone, usually because of major weight fluctuation, pregnancy, or the normal aging processes.
Abdominoplasty is also beneficial for patients whose abdominal muscles are so weak or have been so badly damaged by illness or injury that they cannot be repaired without surgical intervention.
Tummy tuck surgeries remove loose, skin tissue and excess fat from the abdomen and repair the muscles and other tissues underneath.
After having an abdominoplasty, gaining a lot of weight can undo some of the results of the surgery. Because of this, you should be at your ideal body mass index (BMI) before having tummy tuck surgery done. Women should wait until they finish having their babies before undergoing cosmetic surgery.
