Juvederm™ is an injectable dermal filler used to fill the lines and wrinkles in the face as well as add fullness to the lips or other skin depressions. Dr. Salloum strongly suggests using JUVEDERM to soften deep folds in the face, especially the laugh lines around the nose and mouth or the nasolabial folds.

Unlike collagen fillers, Juvederm™ uses a substance called hyaluronic acid, which is already found in human skin tissues. Juvederm ULTRA is an advanced version that comes packed with a local anesthetic to offer comfort both during and after the injection.

How does JUVEDERM work?

Hyaluronic acid stretches the cells in the skin known as fibroplasts. This creates new collagen, which helps decrease the appearance of creases and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid also attracts and binds water, which helps maintain fullness in the area of injection.

What to expect during Juvederm treatment

Because JUVÉDERM™ injectable gel is a simple, nonsurgical treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime. Before your appointment Dr. Salloum recommends that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS), for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Anesthesia is not required for injectable procedure as most patients experience little to no discomfort.

JUVÉDERM injectable gel is injected under your skin to augment, or fill, wrinkles and folds. Following the injection, Dr. Salloum may gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy. The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes.

Juvederm After care

For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites.

After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. These are normal and will subside in the following days.
